A couple of houses have cute little LP gas cannisters like this, only 2-2.5 times larger than Americans use for their barbeque grills. Needless to say, most Japanese houses don't have central heating systems based on LP gas. Most in fact don't have central heating at all. Rob's apartment has a small electric heater mounted in the wall of his living room. He also has an electric floor pad, like an electric blanket but tough enough to walk on. That's about it. I slept on a futon above the electric floor pad. It was plenty cozy ... though it was much easier to crawl out of the blankets after Rob had turned on the air heater in the morning. (12/26) |
