Hey, it's Scott taking photos, and that means that we must have food photos. This is a soup famous in the Shimane region. Starting at the top left: a covered bowl of rice; a small pitcher with fish broth; a plate with minced egg white, fish, egg yolk, wasabi, horseradish, and seaweed pieces; a small fish fillet in a sweet sauce and fruit; seaweed salad; a long plate with tiny clams from Lake Shinji (which we can see out the window next to our table) and anise-flavored black peppers; two kinds of pickle; and the soup bowl. The soup was an assemble-it-yourself affair: add whatever proportions of rice, egg, fish, etc. to the soup bowl, then pour the hot broth over the top. It was extremely good.
